	PROJECT OVERVIEW:The Ode Boutique Hostel, Toronto’s only Black-owned, woman-operated boutique hostel, faced challenges managing their rooftop event bookings. Their email-based system resulted in a 90% rejection rate due to miscommunication, inefficiencies, and the need to carefully align events with their values, building capabilities, and neighborhood concerns. The rooftop, a cornerstone of Ode’s community-focused brand, offered a unique opportunity for non-overnight guests to experience the space. Our team created a streamlined booking platform and a 3D event planner to enhance the user experience, reduce administrative burdens, and ensure event compatibility.

PROBLEM
The Ode’s rooftop is a valuable community space but came with unique challenges:
Noise Sensitivity: Being a boutique hostel, Ode must consider noise for guests staying below the rooftop and their residential neighbors.Complex Logistics: The email-based booking process lacked transparency, causing friction, miscommunication, and rejections.Brand Alignment: The rooftop should only host events that reflect Ode’s values and community focus.
Our goal was to design a platform that reduced booking inefficiencies, aligned events with Ode’s values, and provided tools to simplify planning for users and staff alike.




RESEARCH
To understand user needs and pain points, we conducted:
User Research: Guests valued ease, transparency, and customization when planning events.Stakeholder Interviews: Staff needed better tools to manage bookings and ensure events fit Ode’s unique brand.Competitive Analysis: Identified trends in hospitality booking platforms and opportunities for community-driven features.

IDEATION &#38;amp; CONCEPTUALIZATION
Using our insights, we developed a solution to:
Streamline Booking: Allow users to check availability, select time slots, and receive real-time pricing and confirmation.Empower Planning: Include a 3D planner to visualize event layouts, reducing friction for users and staff.Alignment with the Ode Brand: Accept only events compatible with Ode’s values and logistical constraints.

DESIGN SOLUTIONS
1. Rooftop Booking Platform:User-friendly interface for seamless bookings.Integrated calendar with real-time availability updates.Automated reminders to reduce no-shows.2. 3D Space Builder Add-On:Enables users to customize event layouts with options for furniture, decor, and services.Helps staff pre-approve layouts that fit noise and logistical guidelines.3. Revenue-Boosting Features:Partnerships with local vendors for rentals and catering.Premium package options for enhanced event experiences.


USABILITY TESTING &#38;amp; ITERATIONS
We developed mid-fidelity prototypes and tested them with participants, including guests and staff. Key refinements included:
Enhanced Accessibility: Adjusted color contrasts for WCAG compliance.Simplified Navigation: Made booking and customization processes more intuitive.Improved Visual Hierarchy: Highlighted key actions, such as “Check Availability” and “Book Now,” for easier use.

While this project was not implemented in a live setting, our solution addressed Ode’s primary pain points by:

	PROJECT OVERVIEW:&#38;nbsp;Now Organic Health is a men’s health coaching company focused on helping men over 40 naturally increase their testosterone levels and achieve optimal physical health. Their existing platform lacked the structure to effectively engage their target audience. Our project involved developing a comprehensive digital platform tailored to their unique coaching services. The new platform focuses on guiding men through health coaching, meal plans, and fitness routines designed specifically for their age group, while also providing educational resources on the natural management of testosterone. The ultimate goal was to enhance user engagement and streamline their coaching process.

PROBLEM
The existing website lacked structure, user engagement features, and effective marketing tools, which hindered Now Organic Health’s ability to connect with their target audience. The challenge was to design a platform that:
Educates users on natural testosterone-boosting strategies.Provides actionable resources like meal plans and schedules.Attracts and retains clients through a clear and compelling user journey.

RESEARCH
To guide the redesign, I conducted secondary research on the target demographic—men over 40—and developed user personas reflecting their goals, pain points, and digital behaviors.

INSIGHTS
Users prioritized clear guidance on improving health naturally.Many sought tools like structured meal plans and&#38;nbsp;practical resources&#38;nbsp;to get started.Trust and credibility were critical in addressing concerns around testosterone and health.

In a digital-first world, youth are increasingly vulnerable to anxiety, insecurity, and negative thought patterns, exacerbated by the overconsumption of social media. This issue is especially pronounced for minority groups, who often feel unseen and unrecognized compared to their majority counterparts.

Existing wellness apps fail to address these challenges adequately. They often lack affordability, diverse representation, and personalized features that resonate with users’ identities and goals.




SOLUTION
Evolve bridges the gap by offering a simple, inclusive platform for practicing affirmations. Its unique features include:
Daily Affirmations: Personalized, goal-oriented affirmations delivered through free notifications.Diverse Voices: Real voice artists from underrepresented communities provide authenticity and relatability.Accessibility: Prioritizes inclusivity with features that make mindfulness practices accessible to everyone.

THE RAPTORS LEGACY&#38;nbsp;
The Raptors has been bringing the people of Toronto together for the past 30 years, sharing their love for basketball and the city. The Toronto Raptors, Canada’s only NBA team, was established in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada.&#38;nbsp;

PROBLEM&#38;nbsp;

Engagement with Younger Audiences: Younger fans are increasingly glued to their phones, resulting in less physical activity and a decline in live sports engagement.Underutilized Community Courts: Despite being central to city life, many of Toronto's community basketball courts are underused, which decreases opportunities for local youth to engage in physical sports.Lack of Localized Experiences: Fans have limited opportunities to interact with the Raptors in their communities, making it harder to maintain long-term fan engagement outside of games.

SOLUTION
The solution was to design an AR game that encouraged physical activity and community engagement by integrating digital gameplay with real-world locations. By scanning QR codes on community basketball nets, users could access the AR filter, where they flicked a virtual basketball into the digital net to earn points. The highest daily scores were entered into a raffle for a chance to win a custom Raptors 30th anniversary jersey.Key features:
QR Code Interaction: Users were prompted to visit local basketball courts and scan the QR code, bridging the gap between digital and physical worlds.AR Basketball Net: The game used AR to display a digital basketball net and scoreboard, creating an immersive experience.Raffle System: Fans who scored the most points were rewarded with a chance to win exclusive Raptors merchandise, fostering competition and engagement.

THE PROBLEM
Older adults (65+) often face challenges navigating visually dense e-commerce websites like Sephora.com. Issues such as insufficient text contrast, small font sizes, complex navigation paths, and lack of assistive technology support can hinder their ability to complete key tasks, such as product search, selection, and checkout. Without accessible design practices, Sephora risks alienating a valuable demographic, compromising both user satisfaction and business potential.
 

SOLUTION&#38;nbsp;
Using the WCAG 2.2 guidelines, the report identifies and addresses the following areas:
1. PerceivableProblem: Insufficient contrast between text and background, particularly for secondary information (e.g., product details).Solution: Adjust color contrast ratios to meet the minimum 4.5:1 standard. Use larger, scalable fonts.2. OperableProblem: Key website features (e.g., dropdown menus, carousel controls) are not fully operable via keyboard or screen readers.Solution: Ensure all interactive elements are keyboard-navigable, with clear focus indicators.3. UnderstandableProblem: Complex navigation and inconsistent interface labels confuse users.Solution: Simplify navigation paths, use clear labels, and provide real-time error suggestions during forms (e.g., checkout).4. RobustProblem: Inconsistent behavior of elements when accessed through assistive technologies, like screen readers.Solution: Test and optimize all components to function seamlessly with assistive tools.
